Who started the "slowed down version of a popular song during a trailer" trend? The first one I can remember is Donny Darko with Mad world but I'm not sure if it had been done before.

I feel like it was done in Donny Darko first but I can't remember if anyone had done it before.

I didn't really mind it at first since it can give a familiar but spooky/weird vibe at the same time but it feels like everybody is doing it lately. I know that the dude who did the trailer voice over for decades has passed away and that we needed something to replace him but it just feels like a cop out now.

How does this community feel about this? What would you like to hear instead slowed down popular song?

I think Watchmen did it with their smashing pumpkins soundtrack. Then Social Network did it a year later. I still remember the Watchmen trailer and that trailer was very different compared to most trailers in 09. I think the trailer set up all movie trailers in 2010.
