Movies you misunderstood as a kid

Angels in the Outfield. The kid in foster care asks his dad when they'll be a family again and the dad says "The way things are looking, I'd say when the Angels win the pennant" so the kid asks God to help the team win. I didn't understand that the dad was saying they would never be a family, since it was well known in the movie that the Angels were not a winning team. I made the same mistake the kid did!
