Usually when a sequel comes around, you expect to see most of the same characters, especially if they were all family or friends. But sometimes the sequel comes out and either the actor didn't want to come back or the creators decided to drop the character, and suddenly even though most of the characters you'd expect came back, there are notable characters absent.
A frequent case is when the love interest of the first movie breaks up with the main character off-screen so that he can get a new love interest. Or just have the character die off-screen with little fanfare and then move on. Or a character moves away and then apparently decide to cut off all contact with their close friends and family forever.
Or sometimes they just don't bother explaining it and you're supposed to just forget about them.
What character absences from sequels bothered you?

The latest Mission Impossible movie was terrible, though. Just felt really low effort, writing wise
