Below is how the French countryside was described on Moviechat in reference to the film And Soon the Darkness 1970. Can you think of other rural landscapes which have a scary feel which have been used effectively in films or would be effective if they have not been used in films

"However! I did like the use of the merciless sunshine as opposed to the titular darkness and or shadows to convey dread - and the lonely French countryside could never be made to look inviting there's something sinister and menacing about it that just isn't present in rural England, Germany or Spain."
