Did John Wick help save the action genre?

Post Body

I feel like the popularity and success of the John Wick franchise really helped to revitalize the action genre. Now I know marvel movies are mostly action but I feel like the super hero genre is its own thing. When I say action genre I mean the pure action flicks. Movies like die hard or Lethal Weapon. I feel like those typed of movies stopped being produced as much and as good as the 80s and 90s.

But John Wick came out and changed all that. It set itself apart by having a lead who did all his own stunts and fight sequences allowing for longer and wider shots with less cuts (looking at you Bourne movies), it builds a fun and interesting world of secret assassins that we get deeper and deeper into with each movie. And best of all the focus is the action. The story is there to take us from action sequence to action sequence.

While the series is still on going I fully believe that the first John Wick film set a new bar for action movies that very few have come close to meeting sense.
