Picture a movie (either a short or feature) that plays out like any other but where the characters don't speak. It wouldn't be a silent movie because in silents the characters talk. These characters would interact and look at each other but not talk, not even mime or open their mouths. It would have no music, just regular sounds of movement. Information would be conveyed just by what you're watching on screen without a need for explanation through words. In fact, they could even turn on a TV show and the people on it would also not be talking.
Obviously this has an absurdist bent to it, but my hope would be that it would rise above that. A practical reason for this would be if you're making a movie on a micro budget with inexperienced actors. Lower quality actors have real trouble with line readings, bringing down a movie. This tactic would eliminate that.
An alternative would be a movie spoken in gibberish with subtitles. Is this too precious an idea or does it have merit?
