I do not, and will never understand how Edgar Allen Poes Folio hasn’t been adapted into huge budget feature length Films.
Imagine The House of Usher, The Tell Tale Heart, and The Raven, even maybe the Cask of Amontillado. Set each in pre-civil war Baltimore where Poe lived and which was a very macabre city because of the meeting of Catholics, Huguenots and the Hoodoo and Voodoo cultures adopted and brought by enslaved (and sometimes free) African Americans. Dark, gas lantern lit streets of row homes, utilize Mount Vernon Neighborhood, and Fells Point including the saloon where he was murdered.
Specifically in the Raven which has been speculated for years to have filming rights secured, I imagine Christian Bale playing the narrator/Poe figure, Cathy Bates, Morgan Freeman, I also want to say like Winona Ryder (I know she’s canceled but she plays evil so well) etc. a cast of excellent actors to play out some of the stories of the most important American Writer. I also have no doubt that these sub 100 page stories can be easily adapted into feature length with good writing.
Develop the Raven into a story about slowly going manic and develop Lenore into a real person probably lover.
The tell tale heart becomes a story of a haunting with like a police interrogation Agatha Christie twists.
The cask of amontillado can be a murder mystery unto itself who killed him? How does that play out in the aftermath.
The fall of the house of usher the Netflix one was good but did the real story no justice and was a series not a film. It could so better be told in a period film.
