I can't change the appearance of my companions

I know that normally you can just go to your companions skills tab and click on their portrait to "edit face" but for some reason that option isn't available to me, although I can change their name. Is this like a edition thing or am I doing something wrong? All the yt videos ive seen seem to show that you can just simply click and change it
