Hi all,
I'm a longtime mountain biker (ex. 26" wheels were the new standard. Yeah, that long)
I've got a 26" full suspension with thru axles I'm quite happy with, but, I want to build a rigid and *mostly* swap components from the FS to the rigid. There are a few 26" wheel frames on ebay, but all use dropouts, not thru axles.
I don't need perfect and the trails near me are mostly buffed fire roads with a little very choppy single track. I just want something simpler to ride that pushes my bike handling skills a bit on the choppy single track without buying another bicycle. (CX is no fun on the trails)
As far as I can tell, the way forward would be to get a 27.5 frameset with relatively little bottom bracket drop and use pretty fat tires to get close to the outer circumference of the 27.5 wheel.
Are there any "dealbreakers" in this plan?
