Photos on Motorola Edge+

Post Body

Recently switched from a Samsung S8 to a moto edge , and I cannot figure out my pictures on here. Switching from Samsung, I'm used to the phone having a gallery where all photos, taken on this phone itself or downloaded onto it, were stored and organized and you could separate into albums but there was always a running roll with all of them. Everything I look up about photos on this phone says it runs through Google photos. My problem specifically is that I am trying to post a photo to an app (Tumblr, if it matters) and the only photos showing up are ones I've taken or saved onto this phone, none from my previous phone. I would like to be able to integrate the two to start, but I found the photo I was looking for at the time and downloaded it from Google photos and it showed up in the Google files app (which I have read is the default app for downloads onto this phone, as opposed to "My Files" on Samsung). It did not show up on the camera roll though (side question, how can I access the camera roll directly as opposed to opening the camera first?), So I can't edit it any different than how it was saved on Google photos.

Really can someone just give me the rundown on how tf photos works on the edge ? And downloaded files, I guess? I'd rather not run everything through Google like this honestly. I see that it's saved a ton of my storage space, but I want the pictures on the actual phone, yk?
