Rear Tire Blowout at 80mph
Post Body

Well, it finally happened. One of my recurring mental emergency drills while I ride boring stretches of road is what I would do if a tire blows out. I've been riding for just about two years but never had a real emergency incident before.

Yesterday, IRONICALLY, I was on my way to my motorcycle shop to get new tires put on my bike in advance of a road trip next week when I felt the bike get mushy on the highway. It was windy/gusty so it was hard to tell with any precision what was going on, and before I could properly diagnose the issue, the whole bike started weaving underneath me.

I didn't panic, rolled off the throttle, left the brakes alone, and tried not to fight to weave. I was able to ease it over to the shoulder (shout out to the cop behind me and the two motorcycle rides and who stopped to see if I was okay) and call my insurance company for roadside assistance to get me the last six miles to the shop.

Moral of the story: trust your gut and if something starts to feel off, pull over ASAP and check it out!
