New rider. Need to rant.
Post Body

Hey everyone. First post on r/motorcycles. Used this sub for some info and general lurking while shopping for and then fixing up my bike.

Little background about me. Been riding motocross for most of my life, almost 20 years now, started when I was 7 or 8 thanks to my dad. Love Love Love riding and wish I could get to the track as much as I used to. I remember as a kid every weekend getting down to the track with dad. But now that I am an adult with responsibilities I just can't go as often as I would like to anymore. Lucky to get one weekend a month to hit the dirt. I have wanted a street bike for a while and when I was like 19 or so I had the money saved and a bike all picked out. Dad didn't like the idea of riding on the street though. Not because of my riding skills or anything but just the danger of other idiots on the road. Especially living in overpopulated eastern New Jersey. Him and some friends had street bikes when they were in their early 20's. One of the guys got into an accident and lost his foot. That was always one of dad's big arguments for me not to get one. So that dream was crushed since he told me while I live under his roof its his rules. We all know that line I'm sure.

Now I haven't lived with my parents for about 5 maybe 6 years now and the day I moved out getting a bike was on my mind. Every time I would get some money together I told myself it would be for a bike but something else would come up and I would have to dip into the bike fund. Well fast forward a few years to April 2016 and I made it happen. After a long long time searching CL and other sites I found a 1993 Yamaha XJ600s Seca 2 near me. Needed a bit of work but the guy practically gave it to me and it was all stock, no one had really messed with her too much. So the last few weeks have just been ordering parts and making repairs. Doing all the typical maintenance you would do to a used bike plus extra since it didn't run. The tires were dry rotted, the tank was rusty, chain and sprockets were rusted together, cleaned the carbs, fork seals. Ya know all the fun stuff.

Anyway, even though I had some very frustrating days working on it and constantly turning to the internet for help or to order another part, I am so glad that I bought a project bike. I was going to go used no matter what but the fact that I took this bike from sitting in someones garage for two plus years to running and hauling ass down the street is just so gratifying. It wasn't a complete rebuild or restoration project but it definitely needed a lot of love and I'm glad I chose this bike. Now that it is running great I get to make it look great too. Some of you may be familiar with the Seca 2. Its a sporty little thing that comes with an ugly (imo) front fairing and windshield. I like the naked look, that goes for most bikes, better and since the fairing on mine is cracked and faded it came off and it's never going back on. I have to decide what headlight and gauges I want to fit this thing with. For now though since spending all the money I did on the bike and parts it will just be ridden with the headlight and gauges that are on it. Its not the best looking but one thing at a time.

So last week it was finally all done. Figured out some carb issues and she runs like a friggin champ. I put almost 50 miles on it over the course of a few days just riding around town getting to know her. I feel very comfortable on it already. But now it is raining and disgusting outside. Its gonna be this way for the rest of the week and the weekend doesn't look great either. I am not happy. I keep checking the weather hourly hoping to see some change. Any sign of the sun coming out so I can get out and ride. I was suppose to take my road test at the DMV today but I had to change it because of the rain. I rescheduled it but not for a few weeks when I have a day off of work. I want to ride as much as possible before then. I'm so frustrated I can't. Plus since I don't have a garage my buddy has let me keep it at his place while I worked on it. He's got plenty of room and says I can keep it there however long I need (faded old thing makes his Harley look even nicer) but he's not all that close to my house so I want to bring it home ASAP. The weather is just holing up all my plans. Going to the In-laws Sunday for Mother's day and there are some amazing roads on the way to their house that I have been dreaming of riding on. Right now I am just praying that Sunday turns out nice so I can finally spend some time in the saddle. If I have to drive a car on this one road in particular while my bike is in the garage I'm gonna be so depressed. I guess I could get out there in the rain but it just doesn't look fun haha. I saw a few guys riding in the rain the last few days and I just don't wanna. Getting wet isn't a big deal to me but I feel like your visibility has to be down from rain on the visor and other cars have a hard enough time seeing bikes on a clear sunny day I can't imagine these NJ idiots paying attention in the rain. I'll hold off on riding in the rain for now. But if it doesn't clear up who knows, a man can only be off his bike for so long. Just wishing it were nicer out.

Ugh. anyway that was my introduction/frustrated with the shitty NJ weather rant. Just needed to vent a little and wanted to talk about my bike lol. I'm starting to annoy my girl since this is the only thing I can think about right now so figured this was a good place to let some of that out and give her a break from bike talk.

TL;DR - Got my first bike. Working on it for weeks. Now its running great but the weather sucks. I just wanna ride!!

Edit. added TL;DR
