Flying to another state in the US to buy a bike and ride it 1100 miles home - Tips?
Post Body

UPDATE

To those who gave advice, thank you! Just wanted to update and say that I made it home without any breakdowns (apart from killing the battery the first night and the ground connection on the battery loosening up on me!) or serious incidents!

Took the gamble and it paid off! Highly recommend doing a trip like this as it definitely is a completely different side to motorcycle riding. Cruising at 85mph on I-10 was not the most thrilling but it was also pretty meditative.

Wouldn't necessarily recommend for everyone to make this sort of gamble, but happily the previous owner was very honest and took excellent care of the bike, and definitely put my mind at ease for the journey.

For 1300 miles it took me just under 22hours split into two days! Hit some rain, some traffic, and got lost a time or two, but boy was it fun! Now time to clean her up, replace the sprockets, oil change, and get the battery sorted out with some pudding cables (it's a Triumph thing...)!

As title states I'm flying from my state to a state about 18 hours away to pick up a really lovely example of touring bike (Triumph Sprint ST 1050).

Having never done a long distance motorcycle ride, I was wondering if anyone had any pointers for the trip: things to pack for motorcycle maintenance, things to pack to keep me sane and safe in the saddle (I'll be flying with my full riding gear with me), or just any fun or inspiring stories about similar trips!

I'm very excited and am beyond happy that this trip has been made possible, though slightly unnerved that I basically have three days to prepare!
