So, I had my first "shit, I'm about to die" moment today.

Although fortunately I survived.

Coming round a corner slowing down from 60 (so probably doing about 50) into a 30 zone. Two oncoming cars in the offside lane, and suddenly there's an ambulance in my lane with its lights on, parallel to the cars, trying to overtake.

The ambulance found some room in the middle of the road, and I managed to swerve to the left and slip past, but if I'd been in a car, I'm pretty sure I would have hit it.

I always ride fairly fast, while still assuming there might be a broken down car round every blind corner, but I don't even know how to plan for something like that.
