Replaced starter and it's making a grinding noise

I got this bmw r1100rs off a trade. Said the starter needed replaced. I replaced it. Made sure the key pin was aligned properly. Tightened down properly and it is making this grinding noise. It started a few times I let it warn up. Then i left to get something from the house and tried to start it and now it just grinds and won't start.
