I am wondering who is doing the lineup for the Tigers, is it Hinch or Harris and his computer? It is all about righty/lefty matchups. I still don't get not starting Greene who was coming off back to back 3 hit games, so he is on fire. Also, not starting McKinstry who might have the best overall approach to an at bat on the team. Giving Greene the day off and the team has a day off the next day, he might lose all his momentum going into the weekend series, which I hope isn't the case. I understand the whole righty/lefty matchups with the pitchers. If Greene was struggling like he was earlier in the year, then the move makes sense. But not if he is on fire. Also, Hill is not a fireballer, curve guy, lefties can hang in there, not like he is going to blow the lefty away. Then you start Schoop, who before the game had a career 1-15 lifetime against Rich Hill, not sure what he is seeing there that makes Schoop a good start.
Hinch was asked before the game about Greene not starting and he said he will probably be in there in the 3 or 4th inning, what is the point of that, might as well start him then, just wasting a bench spot that early in the game. The results with the lineup the Tigers put out was awful, 43 year old Rich Hill pretty much no hit the Tigers, set a career high of five straight strikeouts, something that happened be done by someone at his age since Randy Johnson. Is this a sign if the Tigers are good and playing for the playoffs, you can't sit your best hitters, based on matchups. I sure hope that wouldn't be the case.
Can the hitters make some adjustments? The curve ball is what he was featuring, look for the curve, where are the hitting coaches trying to develop a game plan during the game. Like watching the Lions all those terrible years, seemed like the other team would make all the halftime adjustments and Lions would get blown out in the second half.
Seemed like the Tigers came out flat with their hitters without their good guys in the lineup and it was a stinker of a game. Just think you have to go with gut and feel as a manager and not what the computer always says. Just ask the Rays in the World Series against the Dodgers from 2020.
Lets get the series against the Nats
