Bad Capacitor?
Post Body

I have an attic fan that was very noisy. I tried a shorter belt. Good news the fan was much quieter, bad news it wouldn’t start. Just a humming noise. But if I spun the fan with a broom stick it would go. After a year it wouldn’t work anymore. Just humming noise. Could this be a capacitor issue? Side quest: I replaced the motor. Put on the old belt. It threw the belt. I got a smaller belt and now the new motor spins about 1/3 of the speed it used to. Not enough airflow to be effective. Any ideas on the new motor? Looked into YouTube and thinking maybe the first motor had a bad capacitor. Which would be great since that’s $8 to fix. Any help would be great. Thank you.
