Hi all,
The new app is nearly ready. There are only a few things left to do, and that's mostly related to the new features, in particular private rooms and DMs.
Due to some technical incompatibilities with the old app and the new one, the morsecode.me site will switch over to the new app at the same time the desktop app goes live.
One day sometime soon -- I expect within the first week of January, you'll see the public morsecode.me site drastically change. At that point, you'll be able to download the desktop app as well.
Because it's not possible to deploy the desktop app without also updating the public site, there will NOT be an early-access or beta program for the app. It'll just go live one day, and I'll just have to deal with bugs as they get reported.
The new morsecode.me ecosystem will have several tiers of functionality that become unlocked based on your account status. Written out like this seems confusing, but once you're in the app it's pretty straightforward:
- Public, anonymous: can chat on anonymous channels as before.
- Free registered user on web: can chat on anonymous channels and registered-only channels; can choose your own callsign.
- Free registered user on desktop: same as above, but can also use Newsfeeds (allowing you to add custom newsfeeds as well)
- Premium user on desktop or web: can follow other users, create private rooms, and use DMs
