I need some beta readers for a Sci-Fi short story (15,800 or so words). It is about two people who have never, deeply, personally, known God. One is a man. The other is worshiped as a "goddess". Both are blind to what they do. In at least a few senses, both are children.
Yet both know morality and consequences...and they know that they know little about them. While they have not been taught enough by their respective societies, they learn from each other, re-developing a sense of trust that was broken when the man learned the truth about the woman he worshiped. She learns to feel, when feeling had been taken by her by the ones who set her up to be the "goddess to the people". And he learns to forgive the person whom he had not bothered to, or at least failed to, understand.
The story is deeply speculative. PG-13 rated, with one mention (not description) of nudity, some mentions of violence, one mention of bleeding (unrelated to violence), and mature topics.
Looking for inconsistencies in speech, in tone, and even perhaps, in doctrine. I realize that my book is very speculative. The point of the speculation is, in part, to awaken feelings of members towards those who have never had the chance in life to know God, or who have known Him from a false framework. Another point of it is to bring those who have little understanding of God or who understand Him from a false framework to come to understand that God is selfless, and becoming like Him requires an increase in selflessness and enduring to the end, though there may be missteps along the way.
There is no mention of God (at least not as God), the people never having been given, or rather, having lost scripture or prophets (although there is a suggestion that Elwa (the titular character) was raised by a Saintly mother before being taken from her What that sainthood implies is never made clear). In essence, I want this project to be fully approachable by those not of our faith, but clearly understandable and applicable by those who are.
It's a big project in a small package. If anyone wants to tackle it, I'd be down to letting you have a go. I'll shoot you the GDoc link so you can leave comments (or just PM me here or via email).
