I am an investigator doing research. I’m looking to read the exact text for myself and not through the lens of others who have their own interpretations, objectives, agendas, and biases. So I am looking for where exactly the text of the law of chastity is. Where it starts and where it ends. If someone could help I would appreciate it.

Edit: so it appears there is no exact text. The closest to an exact text that I can find is in the General Handbook. I suppose that is fine for anyone who prefers to accept that. Personally I find that the General Handbook, while useful in understanding the beliefs of the LDS faith, is essentially scripture repeatedly filtered and refiltered through the interpretations of a bunch of people since the 1830s. That’s fine and all but I prefer less filtration and more exact texts. Kind of like how the original texts of the Bible would be preferable to translated retranslations of copied texts of the Bible. Therefore the General Handbook is not a sufficient text of the Law of Chastity to me. Thank you for all of your responses. I will read the scriptures and what they say about chastity for an understanding of the Law of Chastity. It’s already been translated and retranslated enough without more modern day reinterpretations of already muddled ancient scripture.

Edit 2: another good point was brought up. Essentially whether or not you live the law of chastity boils down not to what the actual law is, but rather the interpretation of what the law is by local church leaders. This is… wildly problematic in a religion that purports to be both true and unchanging. Two people could perform the exact same actions, visit their respective local leader, and one would come out with a temple recommendation and the other would not. While I don’t have an exact example of this, the likelihood that an event like this has happened is essentially 100%. That’s wildly problematic. I could just find a leader which has my preferred interpretation and stick with them. Essentially every congregation becomes its own church within a larger church.
