Refilling rollerball cartridges

This is a dumb question, I know....
I have been trying to get some MB rollerball cartridges and was told my local pen shop will be out for several more weeks. I'm hesitant to buy more online after a pretty bad experience.
I'm wondering if anyone's tried refilling cartridges and whether you've had any luck. I'm not sure if they're filled with a gel backing (to prevent leaks) or if I can remove the plastic back and simply fill some ink. I'd appreciate some help!
