How do I explain what monarchism really is to someone?

I am asking this question because I want to explain monarchism to my mom. I asked my mom what she would say if I said I was a monarchist, and then she said she wouldn't believe me because then I would have supported Donald Trump (she dislikes him). This clearly shows that she has no idea what monarchism is, and is somehow just combining it with an authoritarian dictatorship (I don't think trump was an authoritarian dictator, but in her eyes he was).
