So I've noticed a thing with names and how they're translated or said depending on the country and language? Maybe this is a me issue because I speak spanish and english but I've noticed that some monarchs retain their names regardless of the language they are being spoken about. that sounds confusing I'm sorry let me try an example:
last three kings of england in spanish and english respectively:
Carlos III Charles III
Elizabeth II Isabel II
George VI Jorge VI
Now of Spain
Felipe VI Felipe VI
Juan Carlos Juan Carlos
Alfonso XIII Alfonso XIII
See what I mean? The English version of spanish Kings names is not used. but is for some though for example Ferdinand VII is almost never referred to as Fernando VII What's special (or not) about him and others.
Other Examples
Franz Joseph instead of Francis joseph or his ancestor Francis II (not Franz II)
Willem Alexander (not William-Alexander)
and sometimes the opposite...
Victor Emmanuel II (not Vittorio Emmanuele III)
more puzzling is that these three at leas are referred by their spanish names in spanish
Francisco Jose
Guillermo Alejandro
Victor Manuel II
It just seems really inconsistent (particularly in english) is it just whatever people decide to call them or is there some method to the madness.
