VCV Rack vs Reaktor for emergent systems

Post Body

I'm working on a project in which I simulate systems using modular synthsis and was looking for some advice for the best approach.

I own VCV Rack Pro, and am fairly experienced with it. The issue I'm running into with it is the size of the patches I'm working on and the complexity of the routing is starting to get a little overwhelming in Rack, which to boot has issues crashing semi frequently. Thankfully everything boots back up without issue, but it's still a pain in the ass. This compounding with CPU usage creep it's making wonder if there is a more efficient program (like possibly Reaktor) I could invest in.

Let's explain the project so you might have a better idea for what I'm going for.

I'm using modular synthsis to create audio bugs, little creatures that are born, make noises for a time, and then die. The current state of the project has a single nest that will spawn a bug over a random interval. The bug has a set of different properties it can spawn with. I have two sets of chaotic oscillators with four outputs, tuned an interval apart, with two different filter options. The oscillators can also be modulated by an LFO that will have a random speed within a range, along with a random pitch for the main oscillators. My personally favorite feature of the bug nest is that it assigns a random lifespan to the bug, but will not attempt to spawn a new bug until the old has died.

Now all of this is really awesome, but with the amount of logic, gates, triggers, comparators and all that, my CPU usage hits around 25% on this patch. To generate 1 bug, who only spawns with random properties and then dies. Hardly an emergent system. The wiring is also a mess. Would something like Reaktor serve me better? Maybe something else? Thanks.
