Need help responding to an old mod

Post Body

I recently became a mod for a small nsfw sub after the old mod was inactive for too long. This is my first time being a mod and Iā€™ve enjoyed it so far, taken the 101, currently doing 201 classes. I just received a message from the old mod wondering what happened and why he isnā€™t a moderator anymore. I want to respond and let them know what happened but wanted some advice from other mods before I do.

They were very inactive and Iā€™ve done a lot of work behind the scenes to clean up the sub responding to messages, removing content that breaks rules, setting up rules, flairs etc.

Im guessing this old mod will want to be a mod again but im wondering how I respond to them considering that they werenā€™t a great mod in the first place. They are also the original creator so itā€™s very fair that they would feel a desire to stay a mod on their own created sub.

Please share any ideas on how to approach this topic gently, I donā€™t want to say something to the effect of ā€œsorry bro you snooze you loseā€ but I also want to communicate that they werenā€™t doing the best job when they were moderating.

Thanks for reading and taking time to respond if you do.
