Few days ago I wrote on here how hiding is vastly underrated and is Jake’s opus. Still believe that but holy hell did I misinterpret the lyrics after reading about his meaning behind the song. Apparently it’s about growing into adulthood and losing touch with your old life.
After listening to the lyrics I always thought it was a song about feeling regret about not spending more time with his dying grandfather and now not wanting to realize that it was the end. Not answering his phone was a gift to himself- thinking it was going to be bad news. Entertain the cancer- we all answer upwards anyways. Still leave our shoes at the door- even though he’s not coming back they still do what he would’ve wanted. Then the guitar at the end sounding like a heart monitor beeping. Etc.
Boy was I wrong. Any other mobo songs that you’re sure meant something only to find out you were completely off base?
