This is what bothers me so much....and it's honestly at least partly our fault as voters.
The GOP pretends to care while a Dem is in office, but immediately stops giving af as soon as they get elected and cuts taxes with no reduction in spending. The Dems never pretend to give af. The only actual difference is that one of them is lying to us about it, it's all just messaging.
They lack the balls to do anything about it because the voters will punish them for (a) higher taxes on anyone other than the super rich or (b) spending cuts to programs we like.
We get the government we vote for and we're not voting for the real answer, which is probably a combination of higher taxes and reduced spending.
Until we're ready to face that answer as a nation, idk what to do.
