I'll agree it's pretty isolated, but as a Texan that has seen with my own eyes people exercising their right to open carry in places where they're just doing it to be antagonistic... some mfers are always going to take things too far.
I'm a gun owner, I've got 3 myself, I'm very comfortable around firearms.... but I'm almost never comfortable around the people that open carry their firearms.
I've got a friend that does it all the time and he's the last person you want drawing his firearm. Poor judgment, poor impulse control, a drinking problem, and usually children with him.
That's your Texas open carry mascot right there.
One final thought...
I have no ability to connect any dots here, but we've also seen rising gun deaths over the last 10 years, so I'm not sure that it's actually helping anything either.

Calm down, you're coming in hot bud.
You seem to assume things about me and I'm just trying to share experience and have a conservation.
If you'd like to chill, we could have a dialogue, we don't have to score internet points.
First, I'm not projecting anything onto anyone, I'm merely reflecting to you the people I've seen open carrying.
In the limited times I've seen open carry happening, I haven't seen anyone that conducted themselves like a rational person that you want pulling a gun in public, my friend included. That's my anecdotal experience.
Like you said, after a short while, most people stopped carrying, but the people that still do.... are those who (again, just my anecdotal experience) have an inflated sense of their own capabilities and generally poor judgment.
That's not a reason not to have it, just saying that when I do see it, it's not exactly what pro-open carry people had in mind.
Second...
As for the data, all you did was say what I said, but more aggressively. I'm making a correlative observation about data I've seen, not trying to draw causative conclusions. I'm not insinuating anything.
If I was going to draw any conclusion it would be limited to saying that open carry doesn't make us safer, but not that it makes us less safe.
Have a nice day.
