Trump can't sustain with a script, so they're pretty evenly matched in coherence.
He had been president before, but he was not the incumbent, he was the last loser. (He's just the loser that managed to convince more than half the GOP to ignore facts and believe that he got cheated.)
It's still hypocrisy.
It sounds like you're saying that the last person to win the nomination is the party's incumbent, but historically that's the furthest thing from the truth....being the last one to win was a disadvantage if you lost the general election.
So that's really just post hoc reasoning that doesn't check with past precedent.
And since being a party incumbent is not a thing...
Your primary vs general point is a distinction without a difference, either debates are important for informing voters about their choices or they aren't. I understand politically why he has made these choices, but it doesn't change the hypocrisy.
I mean...the left isn't looking for grievance politics, they're trying to be the smarter/wiser voices in the room. Biden being old doesn't offend the left and they can see that Trump is arguably worse. (The left knows he has a stutter and that does give him some leeway, arguably too much leeway with some people.)
At the end of the day, trying to be the least old candidate isn't a war either of them is winning.
Yeah, I said that he's slow and old....I'm also saying that having a stutter makes everything else look worse.
I don't think it's a slam dunk, I'm not trying to score points here, I just think it's hypocrisy.
He was well within his rights to do what he did and I think politically, it was the correct decision, but that doesn't change the analysis of hypocrisy.
The only instance where it is valid to say that there is a presumptive nominee is when you're literally the sitting officeholder, not just a former officeholder. Trump being Trump doesn't alter that fundamental political reality.
Stutters aren't just about the stutter you hear (repeated consonants), it affects your speech much more broadly than that.
I do agree that his defenders blame more on his stutter than they should, but his critics do the opposite like you're doing here.
The answer (as always) is at neither extreme.
Valid, although "tbf" implies that alters what I said...it's still hypocrisy.
I think both candidates wouldn't do well.
Biden is slow and old, and his stutter makes that impression worse.
Meanwhile, Trump is more incoherent than usual lately.
Let's not act like Biden is the only one that will do poorly.

I'm sorry, now Trump wants to debate?
That's really rich... but regardless, the Trump campaign wants to debate because he thinks it's to his advantage, I'm doubtful of that.
