Hi there. My name's Prisca. I've been building for around 5 years and currently have only built some snapfit kits, but since learning that the ships in the original Star Wars movies were all kitbashed models, I've really wanted to get into that myself. My issue is that I have some neurological disabilities that make it difficult for me to put together a plan so I decided to ask the community for help. I decided to make a whole post because this is not a small question and I would like input from as many people in the community as possible.
â‘ I am having trouble figuring out exactly what supplies I need, or sometimes where to get them. I have some nippers, hobby knives, paints, files, sandpaper, and a dremel. I'm not sure what other tools I need and would like recommendations from others who do scratch building. I want to get some scribing tools but I'm not sure if brand matters, if I should get one with swappable blades, or where to get them. Also what kind of glue is recommended? I have some Tamiya extra thin cement but I'd like some super glue, too.
â‘¡ In terms of materials, I was wondering, what are some staple kits for detail parts (greeblies)? I have some Bandai star wars models and a couple of Optimus Primes, all missing pieces so they're ready to be used as detail pieces if need be.
â‘¡ï¼¢ I know about styrene sheets and rods, but I absolutely cannot decide what sizes to get. Can you please recommend me the necessities and a place to buy them? There are too many options and my mind gets overwhelmed with trying to figure out what sizes and thicknesses I need.
②C As for paints, what colors are good for that late 70s studio model look? I would prefer to stick with acrylics if possible as setting up ventilation adequate for enamels and lacquers is something I'm not yet ready to do. There are also other people around that I don't want to have to worry about dealing with toxic fumes. Acrylics aren't harmless, I know, but they're much easier to deal with than the others. I have air conditioning but it still gets pretty humid where I live in the summer (Теnnеssее), as I have only a window unit at the moment. I am fine with hand painting. I actually already have a method for hand painting that I want to try. It's this: https://youtu.be/zPZY-mSCnS8
That's all I can think of at the moment. I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. I've wanted to start this journey for 2 or so years but I haven't been able to do so on my own, so I'm really hoping you all can help me finally get started. Thank you for any assistance you can give me.
Edit: Why the downvotes? Please be nicer to me.
