Soundcard difference FLX6 vs FLX10 vs All in one's
Post Body

I DJ'd an event last night and went B2B with another DJ. Their set is always way more clesr sounding than mine. We're plugged into the same Yamaha MG10X mixer. They're using a all in one controller. I'm using a laptop, FLX6. I'm using 320kbps MP3 quality music.

I thought gain staging was the issue so I tried to fix it but it still doesn't sound as clean as their set.

I'm running out of ideas. Could it possibly be the audio card quality in the FLX6 is bad compared to their stand alone controller? Would upgrading to an FLX10 solve the issue? I can't find soundcard specs on the FLX6 vs 10.

I can't see on the small screens 🤣. but I'll probably just end up upgrading to an FLX10 so I can bypass my mixer and go straight into my speakers. Hopefully the sound quality goes up significantly when I upgrade.

I download my tracks from other sources but I check to make sure that the cut off of each mp3 is at roughly 20,000 hz. I was told that's a good way to confirm actual 320mbps quality.

ah so the sound cards don't make a noticeable difference?

Okay I'll try to make a short little video of my set up.

I use SpeK to analyze the tracks to make sure they're up to par.

Gonna have to break the bank and pull the trigger on FLX10. I think someone commented below (maybe it was on another thread) but they were saying how there is a difference but not very significant.

"FLX6

24bit/44.1 kHz sound card 104 db Signal to Noise Ratio .004% distortion

FLX10

24bit/44.1 kHz sound card 110 db Signal to Noise Ratio .002% distortion

XDJ-RX3

24bit/44.1 kHz sound card 110 db Signal to Noise Ratio .003% distortion

XDJ-XZ 24bit/44.1 kHz sound card 114 db Signal to Noise Ratio .003% distortion"

Learned yesterday there's like a 0.002% difference in audio distortion between controllers. It's not the controller quality appearently.

Man I've been trying everything to fix it and it's really kicking my ass. I've tried multiple ways of gain staging and still get the same result. I'm running rekordbox off a $1600 gaming laptop so I don't think that's the problem. I think it has to be the controller. I've gone as far as to run my tracks through software that will analyze them and tell me the cut off frequencies. They're all cut off at 20,000 Hz, 320 mbps. I did get them from a 3rd party but the software tells me they're legit tracks. idk what to do 🤣.
