I've been doing sets every Friday night at a local bar in my city. I am using a DDJ FLX6 and a laptop with rekordbox. I bought 2 15 inch JBLs and an 18 inch sub for my mobile set up. I am using a Yamaha MG10X as my mixer and plugging in RCAs from the controller and output to XLRs to the bass and then XLRs into the high pass of the bass to the 15 inch speakers. The other DJ plugs in his DDJ 1000 and runs serato.
When I DJ, I'm noticing serious audio quality issues. My tracks half the time sound muddy coming through the speakers, but when I make my mixes at home in my headphones, they sound great. I do youtube to MP3 some of my tracks but even a few WAVs I've gotten from places like ZipDJ are coming out muddy.
I'm guessing it's mostly from ripping my tracks from youtube but we can play the same track WAV and his audio quality will sound much more clear. I'm wondering if there is a sound card difference between the FLX6 and DDJ1000. Does anyone know if that could be the issue? Thanks in advance.
Also when routing my XLRs from my sub to my 15 inch speakers, should I do the high pass only? or should I plug the XLRs into the full range outputs?
