Feeling guilty for not speaking a language not related to my ancestry (if this makes sense).

Post Body

Without fail I’ve ran into someone who thinks I do/should speak Spanish. I have maybe .1% Spanish ancestry but encounter this everywhere. More recently, at a job I just started. It feels awkward explaining why I don’t speak Spanish or wasn’t raised speaking Spanish so I normally just speak the small amount I remember from high school or apologize like it’s somehow my fault….anyone else encounter this? My kids (especially my son because he looks the most like me) get this at school too. Instead of explaining why they know very little Spanish they just go along with it. I had a supervisor once get PISSED I didn’t know Spanish and actually accused my parents of not “raising me right”. They aren’t Latino/Latina either…
