i'm a quarter mexican and 3/4 white, and i want to reclaim my mexican heritage
Post Body

my mexican family is very very distanced from their culture because they've been in the US for so long. not even my mexican great-grandparents speak their native language

i feel so sad that i have basically no culture because it was abandoned so long ago in order to appeal to white people

but i've been wanting to reclaim it. i want to learn spanish, and practice mexican traditions and holidays. but i'm so worried that i'm going to be judged, mocked, or called out for "appropriating" my own culture

am i entitled to reclaiming it? i feel like i'm too white to do so. people always ask me if my brother is adopted because he's so much darker than the rest of us. it really hurts that this part of our family was forgotten. am i allowed to continue the legacy or should i just give up and let it go?
