I’m a born and raised Puerto Rican, moved to the United States a few years ago, and am brand new to this sub. Ever since I came here, I’ve been confused as mexican, light skin black and even Asian!! (For some reason)

To clarify.... my dad is a mulatto, meaning his dad is black (Afro-caribbean type, of course) ... and I have other family members who are black on both sides of my family (for example, my great-great grandmother who was a liberated slave). To describe my appearance, I’m medium light brown/ tan skin with chocolate eyes and super dark brown hair thats naturally curly but developed into more of a wave bc of my constant ironing and treatment over the years. I have a wide button nose, ive been told it’s a giveaway of my heritage (?) and pouty small lips

The reason for this is because of my home country’s colonization in 1493, where Columbus first discovered it and made it Spain’s territory at that instant, and then brought african slaves and intermixed with them along with the native indigenous ppl, taíno, who i know I’m also mixed with.... and yea u know the full story as it happened all over the continent and rest of the Caribbean

There’s been times when people have been mean to me and saying that I’m ‘lying’ bc I don’t look stereotypically black and that I’m just latino.... can’t they realize black latinos exist, right??? And the whole entire history???? Omg

I’ve got so much explaining to do but I’m open to any other questions ahhhh I hope this wasn’t vague :/
