For reference, I'm black on my mother's side, and white on my father's. My mother herself is pretty light-skinned, so my brother and I are both quite light-skinned ourselves.
To some people, they say that they could "tell" I wasn't white, or at least mixed with something. To other people, they say I have NO black features at all, and that I'm entirely white passing. For me, I just end up having no idea what I pass as to people. It matters to me only in the sense of getting a more complete idea of the privileges I have attached to this perception. Also, I have some social understanding difficulties (I'm pretty sure i'm autistic, but am still waiting on diagnosis) and just feel so lost on where I stand amongst our society's ever-stressful categorizing game. Yet, at the same time, I don’t WANT to care that much about what other’s think of me… it feels like a lose/lose situation.
Does any of y’all struggle with this and have some insight?
