I am mixed (mother is black, father is white) and, as Iāve learned recently, autistic.
The social faults that come with autism definitely affect how accepted Iāve been in the black community. Given that iām very light-skinned, to the point of most people assuming iām white (or hispanic? Probably just because I grew up in a majority latino neighborhood and understand spanish pretty well- but I donāt know.) I already have an appearance-based disadvantage to my āvalidityā in the black community. But, on top of that, not āsoundingā or āactingā black enough has made me end up feeling entirely unwelcome to half of my identity.
Any other autistic/neurodivergent mixed race people experience this?
