I woke up thinking about the HUGE loss we all suffered with the murder of Laken Riley.
She would have become a NURSE and she would have touched 80-100,000 lives in her career.
(An American nurse sees an average of 1 patient visit per hour x 2080 hours per year x 40 years = 80,000 patient visits).
These thoughts led me to think about how catastrophic it would be to lose the Nursing program at Mississippi University for Women, The W. The Vandergriff College of Nursing at the W is ranked # 1 in Mississippi and it has a 100% pass rate on national boards (the Ole Miss nursing program pass rate is NOT 100%)
The W graduates about 100 nurses a year and using the above numbers, The CONTRIBUTION of
W nurses is about 80-100,000,000 patient visits from ONLY ONE graduating class. The college of Nursing at the W recently celebrated 50 years – think about how many patients have been touched by W nurses!
Who in their right mind would want to mess with this incredible success story – Who? Why?
80-100 MILLION. Think about this incredible positive impact on the lives of all Mississippians. Me, you, our parents, and our children ALL benefit, and all Mississippians are better for having the W, especially the College of Nursing. When something is a success, there is absolutely NO NEED to change anything about it, except to help it grow.
