Seeing as a trailer is dropping on Thursday and the release date is on the horizon, my expectation is that we're going to have a much more in depth gameplay trailer with UI and everything.
Mirror's Edge: Catalyst is certainly on its final leg of development which entails bug testing.
At the end of the trailer we'll get an announcement for a closed beta starting in a few weeks time.
Considering Mirror's Edge's more strictly singleplayer focus, there's likely no need for online stress testing which would most certainly call for an open beta. A smaller and more manageable group of testers will be perfect to begin larger scale bug testing which Catalyst should be starting with the release only 4 months away.
I specified a closed beta because of the "Beta" directory on the mirror's edge site visible now. If a beta were available to everyone, odds are they would just have you go to Origin to download it. Having an entire section of the site dedicated to a beta indicates they are preparing to accept entries and plan out how many people they'll let in. A closed beta also means they can offer a key to anyone who already pre-ordered.
Considering the huge teasing for this trailer like Randy Evan's tweet saying "people don't even know what's coming", DICE is smart enough to know that anything less than a beta will be mostly disappointing after this hype.
And if I'm completely wrong about all of this, then you can pretend I'll eat a sock or something like that.
