I'm 17 and have lived here since I was around 13 and what I've personally noticed is people around here (especially near Minneapolis) just aren't very friendly. the areas I've been to around here have just felt very desolate and lonely. Especially at my school mostly everyone is in their little cliques and aren't the nicest people. At my old school in Vermont, everyone knew everyone but it didn't feel as gatekeeping as it does here, like if u aren't this specific person or don't fit a specific criteria you'll be kinda abandoned. Despite having 4 years to adjust to the environment here, I've never gotten used to it nor have made many friends. I know a lot of people who say Midwestern states are usually like this (especially in smaller towns like mine) but I never believed it till now. My family has gotten used to the people here but I feel like in the process they've lost a lot of their individuality and morals. They've always been democrats but randomly turned to republican after we started going to the churches here. I'm a democrat and a closeted gay so it's painful being surrounded by people who'd shun me if I was my true self. Well anyways, I'm curious if anyone else has this experience and how they've dealt with it all?
