How important is Linkedin for mining engineers? All my past mining jobs have been from applying online the traditional way. As such I have never found a need to get Linkedin. Granted I'm pretty early on in my career and haven't really had a "real engineering" role yet. However, I see a lot of engineers in this industry have it. Is it really that important? I would rather not as it seems creepy to me anyone with an account can discover every job I've worked and my education.
We use it to scope out where people have been and find out who they might know in the industry when we have a candidate we're interviewing.
You'll find the recruiter cesspool is where it's mostly used. If you have Engineer or Surveyor in your job title you're usually a target for a recruiter with crappy opportunities that nobody else wants.
Our HR departments use it to chase potential candidates and scope out applications.
Good to have, just don't accept any old invitation and be prepared for a flood of crap in your feed.
