I have applied for 2 jobs in my local mine in AUS (East Coast), I have been accepted as a Drillers offsider. and am looking forward to being qualified in the long run and the pay that comes with that role.
Orica has also reached out and are hiring wireless blasting techs, I am wondering if this is a better opportunity to have a better career. and progress overtime to shotfirer. I am a bit unsure as the Shotfirer Role seems like its not as well paid as a qualified driller. noting that drillers qualified can be making 1300 a day in WA currently.
both are hard rock underground Gold mining.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Because they handle explosives for a living and insurers don't like that
Drillers offsider will lead to way more opportunities than bomb crew, pretty quickly you will be able to transition to a job as a blast hole driller where you get to laugh at the bomb crew guys sweating their nuts off on a 45 degree day from the comfort of your air conditioned cab.
Oh yeah and blast crew can't get income protection etc

Depends on the company, I started as a offsider with ausdrill then transitioned to blast hole driller with them.
Point still remains drilling with lead to more opportunities than bomb crew
