I am 17 will turn 18 in not too long, and almost finishing school. I am looking at a career in the mines (FIFO), my dad’s friends are in the industry and I’ve been told by peers that it is a very good high paying industry to get into especially as a young guy with no commitments (no friends, no gf ect) as I have no idea what I want to do after school, and the idea of going to university and doing more work is just my worst nightmare, I hated school, and I don’t like the idea of studying for another 4-5years. And I like hands on work I am aware the work is tough, long hours especially as a role like an offsider, and I would be willing to put in the hard work and do what it takes. Do they at all discriminate? With height and size, I am quite short (5’4) but I am quite bulky and strong will this at all affect my chances will they overlook me? Do you have any advice or recommendations, my far fetched plan is to grind and work very hard to save as much money as possible and live off the interest and “coast” so I don’t have to retire at 70.
