I have a opportunity to go minimalist, but don't know how to start.

Hello you! So, me and hubby are living together for two years now and finally we bought furniture for our living room. For all this time it was a mess, full of boxes of things we didn't want to tidy up. Now we bought just the essential furniture (a sofa, a bookshelf, a TV panel and a TV. We got a coffee table as gift from buying the panel) and I really don't want to pack every single space and cranny with books and trinkets. I feel really overwhelmed by the mess our house is, I feel like I can't keep it clean and tidy for more than two days. We really have a bunch of stuff and I feel like minimalism will give me freedom and time, specially to focus on other things in my life. I want to start this revolution with my living room, now that everything is back on boxes and we have thrown lots of garbage. But I don't know where to start. Do you have any tips, ideas or tricks you want to share?
