As is probably pretty obvious, I'm planning on putting a fair amount of work in to the new map. Aside from custom overworld, I'd also like to do a custom nether, and possibly a custom end.
Here's what I'm thinking about with the new map:
I don't like the "one of each biome" approach. It's a good way to make sure people can still navigate with random coords, but I feel that it leads to a less interesting map for exploration.
I want the map to truly feel post-apocalyptic. This is why I made the ruined biome, and why I'd like to include ruins of past builds. I have another secret idea to go along with these as well, which I will bring up in a separate post later.
I'd like the map to maintain a mostly vanilla feel, with some custom landmarks and a few small custom tweaks. Look at origin, the canyon river, the rainforest (swampy jungle), and ruins from the most recent map to see what I mean. The custom content will not be the entire map, but instead a few small sections scattered about.
Related, there were some features of the Era 12 custom map that were very well-received. If possible, I would like to bring some of these back.
We've discussed in the past, and really liked the idea of, changing the nether/surface ratio from 1:8 to a smaller number, like 1:4 or smaller. The largest problem with this, though, is that the vanilla nether can be tedious and boring to navigate.
My image for the custom nether is a nether that is still recognizably the nether, but would contain more interesting terrain features and content. Unfortunately, since we haven't completed any custom nether features yet, I can't really give any real concrete information on what it would look like.
So, what do you all think of this? What would you like to see in the next map?
