This is just an idea in formation right now, but I plan on going through with it sometime over the next few weeks.
Basically, I'm going to hold a 24-hour building jam. This is going to be a server-wide gaming marathon, with the objective of building a city in 24 hours.
I'll post a sign-up topic sometime within the week, and an announcement on /r/Minecraft . Sign up for when and how long you want to play. You could do the full 24 hours (0000-2400 GMT), or you can go for a particular length of time. Either way, it'll be a great time.
Since it is likely such a large gathering of people building stuff will be attacked, you PVPers will get a chance to get in on the action by fighting off the griefers.
So, plan for how this will work: I post the sign up thread, and people can sign up. Half of an hour before the start of the jam, I will add everybody to a skype group and announce the coordinates in the skype. We build.
I will be going the full 24 hours, with periodic breaks for food, biological functions, and posting updates to reddit. If you'd like to get in on the planning/24 hour part, go ahead and message me so we can get this set up.
Finally, I'll be contacting our local director for Extra Life, and try and get it set up so that they can stream this on their site and set it up so that we can do their whole donations for children's hospitals thing.
If this is a success, I plan on doing this once an era.
