Offset Tag For Passengers
Post Body

This idea is the creation of a new tag for passenger entities. Specifically, this tag would enable the user to summon a passenger of another entity with an offset relative to where it would normally be located on that entity and relative to the direction the base entity is facing.

Example Command:

/summon ArmorStand ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:ArmorStand,Offset:[1.0,2.4,-12.43]}]}

This command would summon an Armorstand with an armor stand passenger that is offset by ~1.0 ~2.4 ~-12.43 (with the 'x' 'y' and 'z' being relative to the direction the base armor stand is facing) from where it would normally be above the base armor stand.

The behavior would be such that and armor stand passenger rotates with the rotation of the base armor stand, so if it turns, an entity offset in front of where the base stand is facing stays in the same position in front of where the base stand is facing. This would work similar to how boats work now, with how the boats can have passengers offset when two entities are riding it.

What this can be used for:

  • Custom mob skeleton creation - having different limbs move in different places while being linked to a base entity that is controlling movement, without needing a ton of teleports to correctly offset the top entity based on the base entity's rotation

  • Displaying groups of objects floating in space and having them stay positioned relative to each other no matter how the base entity is rotated or teleported.
