Redstone Golems!
Post Body

(Yes, commander, it seems we have a wall of text ahead. Roger that, closing in)

So, we have snow golems, and iron golems, and I say it's nigh time for a new golem. But, what should it be? We need to find something that's not impossible, but now too easy, and it has to have pertinent uses. Well, I suggest a...

REDSTONE GOLEM

Now, it seems foolish, but I can see this having so many uses if the potential is right. First of all, the redstone golem can have a few uses.

  1. Better controlled fighters

Simply put, the redstone golem would be a faster, less tough, less damaging, and smarter fighter. It would have a toggle-able GUI, which would include options like guard or patrol, how close mobs need to be to attack, which area is okay to move around in (A certain radius of the Golem), and other features Jeb_ and dinnerbone can decide, as this is just a rough idea. It would be able to be ranged or melee, and would have the ability to drop a piece of redstone every so often, similar to the way the snow golems lay down snow, but in item form.

  1. Diamond finders

Remember the days when redstone was an indicator for diamonds? Well, that ended quickly, when redstone was added as a really useful item. I post this part as a way to go back to it. Now, they will not, in my idea, just run around and pull up diamonds for you. I want something simpler than that. When in this state, they will stay perfectly still, and face the nearest diamonds on the same Y level in any way X or Z, in a five chunk radius. Then, when all the golem can no longer detect diamonds, it will lose the option to find diamonds and go back into guard mode. You will still have to mine the diamonds, but I always liked the idea that there's an indicator when you're close.

  1. Catch

This is a catch feature, for lack of a better term. It allows golems to pick up dropped items and, if there is no open chest in x radius, store it in it's own inventory. It also will keep a chunk loaded, so, yes, we can have fully auto ender farms. They will also store up to ten levels of XP dropped from mobs. I feel like this is a less good point, but I really like automation, and this will make automation better.

So, the Golem will be able to preform any of these tasks, but only one at a time. So, how would you make them? I like this idea another redditor posted on another thread. I wish I could give you proper credit, so I will give you an anonymous shout out (NOT SO NINJA EDIT: it was /u/androidyl, thanks man!). Anyways, I edited it a little but here it is.

C P C R R R R

C= comparator (ensuring a trip to the nether) P= pumpkin R= redstone block

This is, like usual, an in game build, not a crafting recipe.

So, questions, comments, concerns, snide remarks? Please, feel free to leave all and any below. I know all these wont be used, and I'm sure you smart minecrafters will be able to come up with more good ones!
