So after months of negotiating a deal to fund 428 million worth of needed repairs to the stadium to keep the Brewers in Milwaukee, the president of the team announces a new massive scoreboard that will be one of the biggest in MLB. Seriously?! A new scoreboard?! What exactly was wrong with the old one? Was this really necessary, and why are the taxpayers paying for it? Why is that money being used for a new scoreboard instead of the critical repairs needed? Somebody, please make sense of it because I don't see a valid reason for a new scoreboard.
Edit: Look, I get it. A new scoreboard is an upgrade. I still don't think it's necessary. And yes, upon further reading, the county government had approved $6.5 million for a new scoreboard before the deal was made with the state for 428 million for repairs. That actually makes it worse, in my opinion. We're all driving around on some of the worst roads in state, and our leaders spent $6.5 million of our tax dollars for an unneeded scoreboard. Everyone was crying about how bad the stadium was and how these necessary repairs had to get done or the Brewers were going to move out of Milwaukee. How is replacing a perfectly fine functioning scoreboard a "badly needed repair?" What exactly is wrong with the current scoreboard? Will a new scoreboard ever pay for itself in higher ticket sales? Unlikely. Why are we spending an additional $6.5 million dollars of taxpayer money replacing something that's perfectly fine in a stadium for a team that hasn't won a world series or has even been to one since 1982?
