My post office has a drive thru lane to make it easy to drop off letters and packages.
Today, I pulled up to drop off a couple priority packages, and was shocked by what I discovered...no way to drop off the packages from my car. Instead, I had to unbuckle my seatbelt step out of the car and walk to the other side. Once there, the new box has a slot, instead of a door, which was too narrow for my whole package. I was able to get the package partially into the box, but not entirely, so I tried pulling it out, but discovered there were teeth preventing retrieval.
A postal worker came over to help me get the package out. He was the worker who just replaced the boxes, and he explained that his supervisor demanded that he installed these boxes backwards, despite his protests, because they were installing boxes that were designed for sidewalks (not drive-thrus), and have a front door for worker retrieval. By using those boxes, they would have required the postal workers to stand in the driveway to get the mail out of the box.
